1967 ‘Freak Out ? January 1967 with Manfred Mann & Cat Stevens at the London Roundhouse Chalk Farm.
This poster was in very poor distressed condition with significant losses including the corners and top 4-5cm of the too edge. It was deeply water stained across the image with ugly and dark tideline from the waters ingress.
Initially numerous pieces of red electrical tape were removed from both sides and detached pieces stored safely for treatment and eventual reattachment.
The staining was slowly and manually reduced before the delicate thin sheet could be washed and de acidified. After drying significant damage and tears were repaired then if was lined on high quality Japanese paper to give support and left to dry flat.
All detached material ( also washed and cleaned) were replaced and lost edges and corners repaired with paper which I selected and toned appropriately to blend in with the original material. After repair the new paper was toned and distressed to blend in with the character of the poster. Finally the Japanesse lining was cut back to the poster edges.
The poster had been a wreck in a box held by the owner for over 20 years now he delighted. A lot of work but its looking beautiful again.
